200 years ago today: The War of 1812 ends (on paper, at least) with the signing of the Treaty of Ghent. Major General Andrew Jackson wore this uniform during the war's last official battle in New Orleans in January 1815. (News of the signing hadn't gotten there in time.) In addition to U.S. Army units, Jackson counted on New Orleans militia, former slaves, Choctaw Indians, Kentucky and Tennessee frontiersmen, and a band of Jean Lafitte's pirates in the battle.
