Photo by @argonautphoto (Aaron Huey). A brightly decorated home in Tarbagatai, an #OldBeliever village near #UlanUde, Siberia. These Villages are of a specific wooden architecture which has not changed much from the 18th century. These brightly colored homes of #Transbaikalia belong to a branch of Christians exiled in the 8th century after the reform of the Russian Orthodox Church by Patriarch Nikon. They were named "Old Believers" and had to flee their homes into #Siberia and abroad in order to practice their religion. Those who arrived in the regions near Lake Baikal and Buryatia built new villages, and were nicknamed "Semeiskie," which means The "Family". (Shot on assignment while hitch hiking from Vladivistok to Moscow!)
