Jeff Lowe is a regular on my social feed. For good reason. He is basically #theman. As an ice climber and alpinist he is the icon for the generation in which I cut my teeth. Technique innovation, product design, event vision all bundled up in a genuinely good fellow. With the many summits Jeff achieved, his current ascent over the past decade is the biggest and toughest. The route is filled with unknown obstacles and each day presents a new pitch. While the summit isn't a pin point on a map, it is someplace that Jeff will eventually reach.
Metaphorically speaking, the mountain Jeff is climbing ALS. The techniques to overcome this giant obstacle were honed over decades of edge cutting alpine ascents. Perseverance, determination, a high pain threshold and the ability to laugh at adversity are all traits that keep the extra high gravity of ALS at bay. The summit? It's the great unknown.
