#ThrowbackThursday from Quest President @tombilyeu.
I was terrified of failing when I took this picture. The mixer had stopped. No idea why, but if I couldn’t fix it we were going to miss a deadline on one of our first big orders.
I’d love to tell you that failure wasn’t an option, but as @OfficialChaelSonnen noted, despite what people may tell you, failure is always an option. In fact, it’s the most readily available option.
But I have learned an immutable truth - failure is not the thing that kills dreams - inaction is. Believe that.
So I took this photo (and many others) and sent them to the only electrician I could get a hold of. I asked him to walk me through identifying the problem. As it turns out, I wasn’t able to fix the mixer that day and we had to scramble to make up the time later, but I learned a lot that day about the inner workings of the mixer - invaluable info down the road as the stakes got even higher as we continued to grow.
If you have goals for yourself, the thing you need to remember is that you ARE going to fail at some points on the way. I guarantee it. It’s a certainty. But if your highest value IN LIFE is the systematic acquisition of knowledge then failure is nothing to fear. Failure simply becomes another educator. Never forget, failure is temporary; carry the lesson forward - not the failure. Get up right now. Go fail at something. If you relentlessly learn from failure, every failure becomes a step forward.
