Happy 86th birthday to American sculptor #ClaesOldenburg! In 1986, his "Knife Ship I," a collaboration with his wife Coosje van Bruggen, sailed into the Guggenheim rotunda. Originally commissioned in 1985, "Knife Ship I" was part of a two-day multimedia, land-and-water spectacle that took place in Venice, Italy. As a dramatic finale to the performance, the motorized Swiss Army pocketknife sculpture was launched from the Arsenale naval yard and navigated the canals and lagoons like a colossal Venetian gondola. ?⛵️
