When working on stories for the @ナショナルジオグラフィック one of the thing that helps to define the coverage is the the extensive amount of #research that the #photoeditors & the photographer do when preparing for a story. #ElizabethKrist & I worked on a story about #RomanWalls for the magazine.

When I was grounded in #Jordan for a day (snow in #Jordan ?). I decided to make use of the time and visit #Petra, which has a Roman section. Upon arrival on a very cold and windy day I made pictures in the Roman section and then searched for anything else that might have a Roman connection. I found a merchant who wanted to sale me what he said are Roman #coins. I’m not sure but I know that the writing of upper left has #Greek writing on them.
Upon more research I found , that 106 AD, when Cornelius Palma was governor of Syria, the part of Arabia under the rule of Petra was absorbed into the #RomanEmpire as part of Arabia Petraea and became its capital. The native dynasty came to an end but the city continued to flourish under Roman rule. It was around this time that the roman roads were built in Petra. A century later, in the time of Alexander Severus, when the city was at the height of its splendor, the issuing of coinage comes to an end.
