Heophilus Van Kannel was an American inventor, famous for inventing the revolving door, patented August 7, 1888.

The door is noiseless and cannot be blown open by wind. It does not allow wind, rain, dust or snow to get in. There is an old wive’s tale which says that the door was created to prevent horses from entering.

In German, the door is referred to as "Door without draft of air" Tur Ohne Luftzug.
