Portrait of a man in #India at a sunflower oil extraction factory located in the Punjab region. This factory not only extracts oil from sunflowers but their production rotates via harvest season when they extract oil from rice bran, mustard seeds, cotton seeds and castor seed oil.

Going Back in the Archive — I took this portrait while on the National Geographic story, End of Plenty, a story that looked at how we feed ourselves due to a growing population and rising food prices. For reasons I cannot remember, we visited this sunflower factory. While the narration of sunflowers in connection to food security didn’t work specially for the story, I recalled walking into this room of the factory, seeing this incredibly handsome and stoic man sitting there, starring right at me. I asked him if I could take his portrait, not to move nor change his exact position from seconds earlier when walking in. This is one of only a few photographs I took and while I'm not a portrait photographer, I often see this fine gentleman in the minds eye, poetic, determined and elegant within the environment he works in.
