“It was an afternoon in March. I spent the entire day with Mr. E. Fonzarelli, starting out at his favorite restaurant in Vallejo, California. After the street, the park, the diner, we headed to the block where he grew up to make a picture in front of his childhood home. I wish I could take credit for directing the magic that happened, but it was the spontaneity of the streets that spawned the set. People started slowly coming out of their homes, up the street, around the block, bringing friends, kids, cars, to say hello to their leader and their peer. A scraper was placed under the tree in front of his home, and a crowd magically formed with little direction needed. Traffic was coming down the hill behind me as I was setting up, and a black SUV with tinted windows slowly rolled to the stop sign. Despite the windows being tightly rolled up, an E-40 song could be clearly
heard raging out of the speakers.” As told to @Rolling Stone by @robyntwomey
