HOW IT BEGAN...
Byworth’s newest creative experimentations have their origins in a serendipitous meeting between the designer and Scarselli, the 3rd generation renowned masters specializing in coloured diamonds. A mutual friend from Paris suggested an adventure: would Marielle join the Scarselli team on a trip that would start in Shanghai and travel to Inner Mongolia to present their respective expertise at an event devoted to luxury? “It was such an unusual opportunity and I’ve never been to Inner Mongolia before so I immediately said ‘Yes, why not?”” says Byworth.
In the 16th century capital, Hohhot, the Swiss designer discovered an extraordinary new culture, warm and inviting people, incredible panoramic landscapes ... and most memorably, an exciting new world of ‘fancy color diamonds’ that dazzled in every shade. “Apart from offering a whole new dimension of colour and contemporary style, I was fascinated by how they offer an opportunity to reflect true individuality. Naturally coloured diamonds are rarer than traditional white ones and there is growing interest in using them in contemporary jewellery design.” Before the team had even returned to Hong Kong they had agreed to collaborate on a fancy color diamond collection combining three generations of expertise with Byworth’s creativity. And so the AYA Collection was born.
