Today we honor Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana'ole (1871-1922). After the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom as a prince, he found ways to still represent and fight for the rights of his people. He was known for being elected as a royal blooded native Hawaiian delegate to the United States Congress, which at the time, Hawaii was still a territory. He was also instrumental with the passing of the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act of 1921. But, along with all of his accomplishments, he was also known to be a wave slider, also known today as a surfer. Today we also honor his day of birth. Happy Prince Kūhiō Day!
