SENIOR SUNDAY! As many of you spend your day with your families, along with our friends @susiesseniordogs, we ask that you consider adopting a senior dog! Check out this success story of a family made fuller with the addition of a seasoned pup!

Britany wrote, "Mr. Schultz (9 years old) is absolutely in love with our kids! It breaks my heart to think of all the older dogs who are passed up just because a family has children. We have had a handful of people comment that it's cruel to get a dog that won't live as long as a puppy. However, we really believe we are teaching our kids a special kind of compassion. They are learning that all dogs deserve love regardless of age.

My oldest son (age 4) goes to a farm preschool. Sadly one of the little ponies just passed away. Lucas immediately said, 'I am sad but I know Molly [the family's former senior dog, prior to Mr. Schultz] and Daisy (the pony) will now play in heaven.' That is the kind of compassion and understanding that having a senior pup brings.

The kids occasionally bring Molly up still. After she passed we just said that Molly was sick and now she is healthy and running in heaven. Lucas and I have talked about how Molly isn't in pain anymore. They recovered fine though. Sadly, death is a part of life, you know?
We didn't even mention Schultz being older until he came home. The boys desperately want him in their bed but he still has a hard time with the stairs. I just told them that since he's our old boy, he can't get up as easy (he actually ventured upstairs just a little while ago for the first time!!!!!). The kids sometimes call him our old boy but that doesn't keep them from playing with him constantly. :)" #dogsofinstagram #dogs #dog
