This youngster is part of the 1st N. American breeding program for this vulnerable species. Since the program was started in 2006, 32 chicks have hatched. Because of the success, the @sdzsafaripark has sent some of the birds to the @PhoenixZoo, where a 2nd breeding colony is being established.
#DalmatianPelicans are 1 of the rarest pelican species in the world & the largest of the #pelican species. When they fledge at approximately 6-7 months, the #birds could measure 5-6 ft. in length & have a wingspan of 9-11 ft.
