Happy birthday, #SethRogen! "I was excited when I got the call to photograph Seth Rogen. I cancelled all plans for cocktails to celebrate my birthday and jumped into the car for the drive from San Francisco to L.A. This was going to be a typical press junket to promote his then-upcoming movie 'This Is the End' — which meant we were stuck in a not very attractive hotel suite in Beverly Hills with a PR guy who was pressing us for time. You never know what to expect when somebody steps in front of your camera but I figured he'd be pretty laidback, kinda like the guy next door but funnier, and I wanted to capture some of that. We got the bedroom cleared out, chose a plain backdrop in a muted color — no props, nothing cartoonish. While setting up, we could hear his trademark laughter coming from the room next to us. When he came in, he was just as chill as I imagined and we chatted a bit as we worked the first set up. I found out that his next project was going to be about North Korea, a place I’m totally fascinated by. When you take a portrait, there is a certain awkwardness and tension. Sometimes your subject reacts by creating a persona, but more often than not it brings out a vulnerability that shows a real human side. I hope some of that comes across in this portrait."
