"In late 1967, Capitol Records signed #SteveMiller to a big recording contract; it was on the occasion of Capitol’s major investment in the #SteveMillerBand that @Rolling Stone sent me over to Steve’s house in San Francisco to make some portraits of him and the guys. We also trooped out to Golden Gate Park and shot some photos in the benches in front of the band shell. Back at his house we sat around and goofed — most of the goofy photos have never been seen — for a while. Then I started taking some individual portraits of Steve himself, the focus of the article, of course. On the coffee table in front of him I noticed a feather. 'Hold the feather up to your eye, Steve,' I suggested. He did and this photo is the result." As told to RS by photographer @baronwolman
