#LastNight unbeknownst to me someone snapped this top pic of me watching Letterman sign off - in deep thought realizing how he supported me at the start. The 2nd pic means a great deal to me because without it pic #1 may never have happened. So I ended up onstage last night & decided it was better to reminisce about my Letterman experiences because I was taking it hard and a regular routine didn't jive. After all my career started after my debut on Letterman in 1995. I'm onstage last night explaining that the person responsible for Letterman ever knowing who I was is Zoe Friedman. As I'm recounting this story I hear someone say "SHE'S HERE!" And you guessed it. Zoe was at my show last night at the @HollywoodImprov. I almost lost it when she yelled from the darkness of the back of that room, "hi Dane I'm here!" It was symbolic given 20 years ago Zoe basically did the same thing at the back of a comedy club in NYC. Finding me, an unknown nobody scrapping with other young comics and sharing her enthusiasm for me. Zoe Friedman is the reason many of your favorite comedians broke through and got to credit Letterman for "finding them." Letterman created a space for people like Zoe to cooperate in his vision and playground and invite someone like me to gain some exposer. Last night I told story after story for 20 some odd minutes and all of this while Dave was saying goodbye and Zoe Friedman was with me sharing in the laughs and memories. I'm proud to still be doing good things by her including the wonderful Comedy Gives Back which we successfully put up at the @hollywoodImprov as well. Thank you Letterman for the stage time but thank you deeply Zoe Friedman on behalf of all the comedians you gave a shot to. I'm grateful beyond belief for that was the start of my professional career and the validation I needed. Side note I thought it was a great book end to the night that it started earlier in the evening at The Lyric where I met several of the next wave of comedians that will entertain you as the eagerly waited for their stage time. The whole night will stay with me forever.
