Photo @Cory Richards On assignment with @intotheokavango for @ナショナルジオグラフィック exploring the Cuito River in the Angolan highlands. Progress has been slow...10km in as many days. Yesterday, the water became navigable solely by Mekoro. To aid progress, some team members walked the dry land while the polers found their way down convoluted twists and bends. It was a long day. The water remains croc free as far as we know...a few snakes here and there....but safe enough to get in move about. We are about 20km from bigger water and there is increasing evidence of human habitation as we move further down stream and the area is clearly being hunted by local inhabitants. As we move down stream, we hear more birds, the fishes are more diverse and bigger, we are seeing more evidence of ungulates, and have noted some Hyena activity. We'll see what we discover today.
