At the World Taxidermy and Fish Carving Championships in Springfield, Mo., an attendee used the flashlight on his phone to look inside the mouth of a mounted deer. When most people think about taxidermy, they think of big game mounted on dark wood walls. But last month, attendees and participants at what is billed as “The Greatest Taxidermy Show on Earth” often seemed to be drawn from art schools or an anatomy laboratories. Taxidermists who came from 48 states and from as far away as New Zealand, lifelike detail was everything. “Every entry was a true work of art,” said @whitcphoto, who photographed the event. #taxidermy
