50/100: trying new things :: "Royal Geisha of Freedom" :: Part 3, finished my first watercolour in my Handmade by Handbook Journal Co. book :: also my very first using my Yasutomo Sumi-e Watercolour set (shown in photo) that I picked up at one of my favourite stores @plaza_art. I also used my number one go-to paints: Kuretake Gansai Tambi & Sennelier l'Aquarelle pans to complete this piece. The story behind this particular creation: This sketch was inspired by a dream of all women being honoured in their gifts, talents and beauty instead of being exploited because of them. A dream of girls being protected not just by their family but by society at large, and that empowering messages of their intrinsic value and inner beauty would be what they grow up to understand and know. This piece was also inspired by a mix of old Japanese, Korean and Chinese artwork, which connects me to my Asian roots, and reminds me of how interwoven and interconnected, and yet wonderfully different we are.
