“I was assigned to shoot portraits of #BrunoMars and his songwriting/production partners the Smeezingtons — that’s Philip Lawrence on the left and Ari Levine on the right — at a small music studio in Hollywood. The boys had a really tight-knit camaraderie and I got some lively portraits of them in about 10 minutes. While I was packing up my lights, Bruno brought his partners over to the keyboard to show them a piece of music he’d been working on. As my lighting case was right behind the keyboard, I looked up and noticed that I could just barely see all three of them them through the slats of the keyboard, which made for a nice composition. I attached a wide angle zoom to my Nikon and started shooting some frames. I was afraid that they would get annoyed with me poking my lens up at them, but they were so absorbed in what they were doing that they didn’t even notice. This was by far my favorite picture of the shoot, because it shows the Smeezingtons doing what they do when no one is watching — making music!” As told to @Rolling Stone by photographer @cpizzello
