From industrial eyesores to ultramodern lofts, #Pittsburgh has no shortage of architectural styles. But we can safely say this is the only building covered in Chinese #calligraphy. House Poem, created by Huang Xiang, is one of four houses-turned-public-art-projects along Sampsonia Way between Monterey Street and Sherman Avenue. The building is a project by City of Asylum, a grassroots organization that provides exiled writers with housing — and turns formerly derelict homes into giant works of art. @darrenshiggins photographed Pittsburgh, a city in the midst of a cultural transformation, for @nytimestravel’s #36hours column.
