#Aaliyah died in a planecrash 14 years ago this week. She was the sultry young diva with the heavy eyeliner and the impossibly low-slung pants. In videos, the world moved along with her hips; on the radio, her sound melted the candy coating off peers like Brandy and Monica. She was everywhere — in videos with DMX, Timbaland, Missy Elliott, Lil’ Kim and the Notorious B.I.G. — but somehow always seemed alone, aloof and sweet, a girl with a past and what should have been a very bright future. “I think sexiness is something you need to have inside yourself,” she said in the September 14th, 2000 issue of @Rolling Stone. “You either have it or you don’t.
