Vietnam doesn't have a lot of hostels, so you're limited to guest houses (which is actually nice for a change). This is typically what life on the road looks like - a different bedroom every night, where only 8 short hours are needed to shower, repack, and get some sleep. Hot water is usually a priority, as is aircon. If neither of those are available, a fan room is more than fine. The fact that we had 3 beds to share was a luxury. Geckos and some bugs are typically already there when you arrive. My biggest complaint is waking up with ants on your bag, or crawling out of your computer - I think it's the heat. Anyways, this was in Pho Chao, a dusty town that is close to Laos. It was either this or Vinh, which they call Grim Vinh, yet I can't imagine how it's much worse than this place. It reminded me of that hostel in the opening sequence of The Beach where Leo is in Phuket. Price-wise, this cost like $4USD per person which is essential when your priority is value-based backpacking. #phochao #vietnam #contrateur
