My first priority in this cause is to save kitties from this horrific procedure. This advertisement , on the marquee of this veterinary hospital,in the Southeast, is beyond appalling. Who knows how many kitties are going to be maimed, harmed, and mutilated because someone thinks it's a great deal and something their kitty needs. This practice is one of 5 in this area that is owned by this veterinarian who is a 33 yr member of the @AVMAvets . His professional association, the AVMA, recommends that declawing should be an absolute LAST RESORT! I'm sick and tired of this going on my friends. Aren't you? My mom called this one, and the other practices he owns and sure enough they all offer 4 paw declaws and NONE of them tried to ask if the humane alternatives were tried. They gave the prices for the declaws. They will do any age and weight and charge more for heavier cats. One receptionist even said that the vet that does the declaws at that specific practice, " does it the old fashioned way. She doesn't spill any blood and it's really NEAT how she does it. She puts a tourniquet on the leg and cuts the nails and sutures it up and once the tourniquets off, there's no blood She's really good at it. " Each of these practices said there are no side effects or bad consequences from declawing, except one said that declawed cats "tend to get arthritis in their old age" and that's it. Please share this post and let's end this horrific thing. I'm asking you once again, despite the anger and outrage from seeing these kind of things, that we keep it respectful and no threatening.
