Today we celebrate the Guggenheim Museum's 56th anniversary! On October 21, 1959, sixteen years after it was first conceived, our Frank Lloyd Wright-designed building opened to the public. Thousands flocked to the opening with excitement and formed lines down Fifth Avenue to enter the building for the first time. The inaugural rotunda exhibition featured works by Jean Arp, Constantin Brancusi, Marc Chagall, Stuart David, Max Ernst, Paul Klee, and Vasily Kandinsky. Enjoy this clip from opening day!
