This bright soul, Doris Dooyema, wasn't afraid of anything. She was the toughest they came, with the gentlest of hearts! She had faced off with the big ugly "C" word once before and beat breast cancer. Who knew a bronchitis diagnosis could be so far off? Due to lack of early detection methods we found out the diagnosis was much more grave. She had lung cancer. We rallied behind her prepared to face it but it was already in an advanced stage and spreading fast. Here was the strongest woman I knew not able to fight for herself... It was unfair. The anger, confusion and utter devastation I feel from her loss has driven me to get involved with @lungforce. I want to share her story, to help inform others of the facts we were faced with all too late. My grandmother was a non-smoking healthy women just like so many diagnosed! I found out it kills more people than ANY other cancer and is the number one cancer killer in women! It was a brave journey but a short one, cancer took her life in less than 7 months! My grandmother showed me every day was a gift and she selflessly lived in service of others. In her absence I have been given an opportunity. The opportunity to use my voice. The opportunity to fight alongside those who are fighting and let them know they aren't alone. TOGETHER we have the opportunity to evoke change through @lungforce! Please join me...
