There’s less than one month left to see “In and Out of the Studio,” closing January 3. This exhibition presents one hundred years of portrait photography in West Africa through nearly eighty photographs taken between the 1870s and the 1970s. In the decades before and after Mali achieved independence from France in 1960, Malick Sidibé operated a highly regarded commercial photography studio in the capital city of Bamako and made thousands of portraits for a burgeoning middle class, including this photograph.
