Tomorrow marks 80 years of Monopoly: board-flipping, yelling-at-Grandma, we-see-you-cheating-as-the-banker Monopoly. ?
This is the design Charles S. Darrow included with his patent, which was awarded on Dec. 31, 1935 (now in @国立アメリカ歴史博物館). By that time, Parker Brothers had been selling the game for months, and they sold more than 1.8 million copies by the next Christmas.
You’re not the only one who’s been frustrated—critics of the game (and the idea of monopolies in America) created alternatives, including one game called simply Anti-Monopoly.
