Photo by Michael George @migeophoto // After pilgrims walk the Camino de Santiago, they are often in need of a "post-pilgrimage" due to the bustling nature of Santiago de Compostela. Many decide to walk the Camino Finisterre, a route that winds west from Santiago to the coast. Cape Finisterre is a rock-bound peninsula in Galicia that, in Roman times, was believed to be the end of the world. It was the furthest west you could walk on this believed-to-be-flat Earth. Today, pilgrims will sit on this cliff face and burn their boots, clothes, and other belongings as the sunsets over the Atlantic ocean in a sacrifice and celebration of the end of their journey.
