Photo by @Gerd Ludwig. Today marks the 30th anniversary of world-renowned artist Joseph Beuys' passing. In January 1978, I went on a journey to the Lower Rhine with Beuys. It led us back to his origins, to his roots near the city of Kleve and its surroundings, to many places of his childhood and youth. In this collaboratively developed photograph, Beuys is holding a dead hare, referencing his performance “How to Explain Pictures to a Dead Hare.” The baby cradle pictured here was his own as an infant, which we fortuitously found in an antique shop during our trip.
