For centuries the rock needle has been a sacred place. Today it is topped by a pilgrimage chapel – the Chapelle Saint Michel d'Aiguilhe. There are 268 stone steps leading to the top. From the city of Le Puy, it is 1,273 kilometers to Santiago de Compostela.
