A young Pakistani soldier at a military base at roughly 17,000 ft on the Godwin Austen Glacier, Karakoram range, Pakistan. After three weeks marching up the Baltoro to Concordia and then up towards the disputed Line of Control and the Siachen, soldiers will spend 3 months stationed between this camp and the one higher, positioned at roughly 20,000 ft, guarding the border.
On the other side of the border, facing he same elements, Indian soldiers endure similar hardships. Last week, nine Indian soldiers were lost to an avalanche, leaving only one alive who survived in the snow for six days.
