Barnacles are an incredibly resilient type of arthropod, related to crabs and lobsters. Typically found clinging to permeant fixtures feeding on plankton and other micro foods, they can also be razor sharp. Fossilized barnacles can be traced as far back as 500 million years during the Middle Cambrian period.
