How do curators work with artists in order to shape an exhibition? On our blog, read how the curators of #PhotoPoetics had the opportunity to collaborate with the show's artists on the presentation of their work, including artist #KathrinSonntag's slide-show work "Mittnacht" (2008). The work features 81 slides, each of which depicts an enigmatic arrangement of objects and photographs within Sonntag’s studio in Berlin. The artist expressed a desire to evoke the ethos of the studio space within the gallery installation. To achieve this, she incorporated several elements that reflect the casual environment of an artist’s studio, including the haphazardly strewn electrical cord that powers the slide projector and an intentionally rough and unfinished paint job on the projection wall. Particularly attentive viewers will also note that the stools provided for visitors closely resemble a stool from Sonntag’s studio that appears in many of the projected images.
