Photo: @Robert Clark // The Wilson's Bird-of-Paradise feather is part of a limited edition sale of some of my favorite pictures.
The signed pictures are limited in number and by the length of this sale. I will be using the profits to help develop an educational app on Evolution.
Also a new book of my work, from @ナショナルジオグラフィック assignment on the subject Feathers: Displays of Brilliant Plumage. Published this month by Chronicle Books. Is available with the purchase of different sized prints. Check the link in my bio to view the gallery of images for sale.
This image shows a single tightly folded tail feather of Wilson's Bird. The most curious feather of this species is the elaborate display the male birds must employ to attract a mate. During mating season, the male bird first make a clearing in the forest floor, removing all the twigs and detritus. Once a female suitor arrives, the male preforms a dazzling dance.
