Imagine being by born into the poorest of circumstances and then left abandoned, put in a plastic bag with your brothers and sisters and then left to die on the north shore where there are no people, no tourists, no one to even feed you from the corner of their table to ensure you have at least a half-decent meal a day. Imagine being left to die but against all odds you make it. You make it but you're all alone, spending months and months wandering across scorching hot cliffs scavenging for food where there is none, the only company at night the 500+ ticks that have set up camp inside your ears. So many ticks in fact, they don't look like ears anymore. They're just two big balls of crawling ticks and the rest of your body is all ribs and fleas and mange and you're hungry and sad and scared.
Then one day you come across a tall lady walking down the road and she picks you up, just like that, and takes you to a place called "home". "Home" is a strange place. There is food that comes in bowls and it arrives several times a day. There is a soft pillow to sleep on and you get a special pill and all of a sudden all the ticks start falling off of you and for the first time in months, you can hear properly again. And when all the ticks are gone you get something called a "bath" and it's wet and you don't like it but afterwards there are warm towels and you're clean and now "home" is inside a big house with people that cuddle you and hug you and let you give them kisses. And you eat as much as you want and play with other dogs that like you and then you get to go in a car and go to the beach and walk in the sand and all of a sudden life is so lovely and warm and full of treats and hugs that you forget all about that other life you had and you're happy
just happy
so so happy
