We're running a teensy bit behind on #MuseumWeek in Australia and Oceania but we should be right on time for the rest of the world. One of our #SecretsMW is the Cipher Machine in the #MAAScollection. You may know it as an #Enigma Machine.
The Enigma machine was used by the German army to encipher and decipher secret radio messages during World War II. Cracking the Enigma became a top priority for Allied codebreakers at Bletchley Park, UK. Members included Alan Turing and Gordon Welchman, and together they developed the #BOMBE, an electro-mechanical machine, which was used to help decipher the code from the Enigma Machine. Many regarded this contribution as crucial to the Allied victory. #code #Turing #Welchman
