Curator of Architecture and Digital Initiatives @troyth on finding new ways to understand architect #ZahaHadid and her work—"The Guggenheim was aligned with the most visionary architects of a visionary moment, architects who had largely grown up with the social ideals of the modern movement but were faced with contemporary market realities once their careers hit stride. The museum provided a catalyst for thinking through the implications of the late 20th-­ and early 21st-century conditions of globalization, urbanization, and digitization for architecture. As these conditions calcify and others emerge, the challenges facing the discipline continue to mutate. With fresh eyes on her career, I’m left with the question of what Zaha would have done at 75, 85, 95, or 104—the age of Oscar Niemeyer when he passed.
