The older I get, the more I realize I was an asshole in my youth. This 27 year old disciplinary letter to my parents was sent while I was in college, age 18. One night, everyone on my floor was dropping water balloons out the 8th story window of a Union Square dorm apartment, scaring the shit out of the kids coming out on the #nyu dorms across the street. I'd grown up in a one floor house in the #Jersey 'burb of #Highlands so maybe I was a bit less willing to stop testing gravity than my dorm mates: when most lost interest after running out of balloons, I started filling plastic grocery store bags and rolling them off the sill. Granted, not a single person got hurt but, Jesus - what an asinine, unnecessary and potentially dangerous pastime this was. I remember being enraged as an 18 year old that this liberal arts college would rat on me to my parents with a disciplinary letter as if I was in high school. Looking back now as a 45 year old man, I'm lucky they didn't just turn me over to the #nypd. But every day above ground is another chance to improve as a person - so I'm happy to report that I haven't terrorized #UnionSquare (or anywhere) with water balloons since 1989. But if I'm being honest? Whenever I'm on a second floor or higher? The temptation to repeat this behavior is nearly crippling.
