#JamesBrown, the Godfather of #Soul, was born on this day in 1933. The man invented funk and influenced a slew of other greats – including #GeorgeClinton, #MichaelJackson, #SlyStone and #Prince – with his combination of a driving rhythm with emphasis on the one beat, a reliable hook and R&B instrumentation. It’s no wonder that when he died on Christmas Day 2006, the masses came to pay their respects at memorial services at the Apollo Theatre in New York City and in Augusta, Georgia.
