For the latest #CreativeNewYork interview #PopRally chatted with visual artist and funny-guy-about-town Andrew Kuo (@earlboykins) about the process of creating his signature graphic paintings and his love for pop culture, sports, and NYC. “Some of my early childhood memories are running around Mott Street in Chinatown and going to museums and art shows with my mom. I remember coming to @ニューヨーク近代美術館 to see the #AndyWarhol and #FrancisBacon exhibitions. All I wanted to do was go to the cafeteria—it was my absolute favorite place—but my mom would make me look at everything first. She’d say “You’re too young to understand this...it might be scary or confusing, but when you’re older, you’ll be happy you saw it because it’s not going to happen again.”—Andrew Kuo

Follow #CreativeNewYork and @earlboykins in the coming days for more of Andrew’s story. Coming up: what he really thinks about while watching paint dry in the studio. If you’re an artist yourself, what rituals do you rely on when you have creative block? Let us know in the comments, and head to the link in our bio for the whole Q&A.
