L’Espagnol, neuf fois vainqueur à Roland-Garros, a annoncé vendredi 27 mai qu’il se retirait du tournoi en raison d’une blessure au poignet gauche. « Ce n’est pas cassé, mais si je continue à jouer, c’est sûr que ça va finir par l’être, a expliqué le n°5 mondial, visage fermé et atelle bleue autour de l’avant-bras, qui dit avoir ressenti cette douleur pour la première fois en quart de finale du tournoi de Madrid, au début du mois de mai. Il me reste cinq matchs pour gagner le tournoi. Et c’est impossible pour moi de jouer cinq matchs. Je ne peux même pas m’entraîner. C’est une décision très difficile, mais ça fait partie de la vie. » --
