Light traffic on highway 12 at twilight, seen from a re-built sand dune in #capehatterasnationalseashore. These natural dunes are the only barrier between the ocean and the communities and towns of the #outerbanks. As they get beaten down they open up the literal floodgates. The affects of #climatechange are becoming more detrimental here in the #OBX with every passing year, with estimates in the billions of dollars needed for current and forecasted damage. It's not only the carnage of rising seas, it's also the the unpredictable weather and punishing hurricane season that continues to come earlier and last later.
