One of the most incredible things about Pride is being surrounded by a community that embodies so much strength, courage, and heart. Pride is an event that unites and inspires, and gives the LGBT community a safe space in which we can celebrate how wonderful and diverse we all are.

In light of recent events, I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel a little nervous about attending Pride festivals this year. However, I refuse to let fear stop me from attending something so important to me. For too long, I lived in fear about who I was, who I loved, and what I really wanted out of life.

In the wake of the tragedy in Orlando, and the threat that was thwarted prior to L.A.'s Pride, we must unite and speak out more loudly and proudly than ever. For too long, we were (and often still are) treated like second class citizens. For too long, our voices were silenced.

It is imperative that we don't let fear or intolerance keep us from celebrating our community and that we continue to spread love and acceptance.

I am looking forward to seeing many of you tonight, as well as tomorrow afternoon for Rayvon's performance!
