The beautiful body painting that most Amazonian tribes wear, like the one on this young woman from the Kayapó Nation of Brazil, is made with the pulp of the Genipape, a tropical forest fruit that when mixed with ashes, oxidizes to create a semi-permanent ink. The paintings wear off in a few days and the process of reapplying them is a very important part of social bonding in these very remote places.
