I want to tell you all about something that's near and dear to my heart. I'm severely dyslexic. I had the hardest time in school. I was a part of special ed from middle school throughout high school. my teachers were so concerned and feared that I might have something more worrisome. they sent me to have an IQ test. To their surprise I scored extraordinarily high... At that time in Indiana dyslexia was not recognize as a legitimate learning disorder. Yet my mother knew what it was. she was always unwaveringly supportive. I will never forget all those nights getting home from school working on homework to 11 o'clock, crying until my eyes hurt. Yet the numbers and letters were always scrambled. Mom always said this was a gift. That it would help me see the world in a different way. So I pushed on with that faith in my heart. It wasn't till I was 22 and working on a set when the script supervisor. Asked me a question that would change my life. "have you heard of the Irlen technique?" I said no, so she had me meet with the illiterate center of North Carolina. They gave me colored glasses and told me to read finally they handed me the blue ones. I couldn't hold back my tears. All tracking all the scrambled up letters were in order for the first time my life. Now I've read many books. It used to take me 4 1/2 hours to read a script now it only takes one. If you have a child, friend or any love one Who has dyslexia please tell them about the Irlen technique. it will change their life. #Dyslexia #ItsAGift
