Photograph by @paulnicklen // I realize that this is not a picture of some charismatic megafauna species but what makes this moment special to me is that I took it in my backyard. While I was editing photographs of polar bears, I glanced up and there it was, a gorgeous barred owl. This image does not fit my body of work but it felt like this intelligent bird was looking right through me. I wanted to remember her/him in all of their glory. Staring at a computer screen is hard when we spend so much quality time in nature and the bird helped me reconnect to a world that I yearn for constantly.
