(1/6) Tom Sepull is an alternative energy pioneer. He spent 50 years in the heating and air conditioning industry, and in the late 1970s, his company was one of the first to install solar-powered hot-water heating systems in residential and commercial properties. He advocated installing high-efficiency units in his customers’ buildings and held his business to a high standard for recycling old, used equipment. At home, he’s mindful of his carbon footprint as well, running only energy-saving appliances and driving eco-sensitive vehicles like Prius and now Mirai. “I’ve always been on the conservative side,” he says. “I was running CFL lightbulbs in my own home and offices before anyone even knew about it. I have some that have probably been on my porch for 25 years that still work fine.
