As a boy Granddad never got a toy he would play with rocks and pretend they were The race cars that he would one day cross the victory line so many times. This is a man that would get up at the crack of dawn as a boy check his traps, milk 20 cows, Feed 200 chickens and hoe 12 rows of corn. Then he would go to school. His first job was breaking horses at the age of 14. When he was 16 years old A Farmer he was working for didn't pay him for three months so he hit him so hard The sheriff said "you better get out of here, and join up with the Marines", so he did. Came back home at 19 married my mawmaw. Did backbreaking work building bridges working in steel mills. One day the floor Captain asked if any of you men know how to work a jig board he raised his hand and said "I do" even though he was never taught the high-level of mathematics that was needed for such job. I've had many of old-timers come up to me Point their finger at my grandfather and say "that right there, is the best jig board operator in the state." He's worked every kind of job owned a speed shop worked as a repo man, some know him as the "Blue Devil" Holling big rigs across this great country. But the one thing that's always been constant other than his his love for his family and wife. Would have to be his need for speed...racing cars, he took apart his first engine wen he was 12 and put it back together again. The first race he ever ran he won at the age of 16. Mawmaw tells me when they first got married he had to win to pay for the groceries. He invented the onboard fire extinguisher "FireBottle" that has saved so many drivers lives. even sitting on this porch this morning with my wise hero he tells me at the age of 78 that he can't wait to get home get on the garage floor turn that wrench and get back out on that track next weekend. When you look up to somebody don't try to copy them exactly. You'll try to Hard and slip up. Just walk the best you can in the tracks they left behind.
