Photo by @daviddoubilet A friendly hawksbill turtle soars through a sea filled with barracuda and batfish in Kimbe Bay, Papua New Guinea. This female met us at the boat and swam along with us through each dive of the day, She would swim when we swam, or rest on the bottom when I photographed other fish. At one point she grew tired and rested on my tank as I swam for both of us. Her friendly nature made this encounter beyond magical but it also made me very anxious for her well being. If she approached a native fishing boat in the same manner it would be her doom. Hawksbill sea turtles are endangered along with all species of sea turtles.
